Azmaish / Trials of Life is about two women, Sabiha Sumar and Kalki Koechiln, who go on an extraordinary journey across India and Pakistan to understand why people in their countries are turning to religion for answers.

Pakistan is overwhelmed in its war on terror – with school children being attacked by Taliban, have supporters of religious extremism realized violence is not the answer? Just across the border, India is struggling to keep its secular identity under the weight of rising Hindutva groups – what does this mean for India and its neighbours? The film explores these questions through the lives of ordinary people. Kalki and I travel far and wide, meeting people from all walks of life, trying to understand the pulse of our countries. Why is violence in the name of religion the ready answer to some sections of our society? How can we change this
