The stench, the dirt, the flies are all part of life for the families that live on top of these garbage mounds. At first it seems almost impossible to imagine that these young children will begin collecting garbage as young as 4 or 5 years of age and will continue to sell scraps they collect for the rest of their lives, yet this is how they all barely manage to survive.

I wonder, what does democracy mean to those who live here? Do they have the luxury to dream of a better future for our country?

The political party flags are accompanied by the ominous black and white flags of ISIS affiliates in Pakistan.

An old garbage collector has the wisdom and farsightedness that many of our leaders lack. What is the role of politicized religion if it destroys the very essence that binds us together? What God has created in the form of diverse belief systems let not man put asunder.
